Notes

BIOS, bootloader and recovery

The bios reports itself as Aptio Setup Utility by AMI.

It supports UEFI as well as CSM, but it does not appear to let you choose a boot device in UEFI mode - only detected EFI loaders are listed and so far I haven't gotten it to detect an EFI bootloader on an USB drive (using USB C to A cable and a 300G mSATA USB drive).

Secure boot can be toggled on and off. When off and in CSM mode, it boots Linux fine though, a Debian 8 live iso written to an USB drive works out of the box.

It seems that the device does behave like a standard PC and not an Android tablet. The BIOS does not seem to live on the harddisk itself. That being said, it's strongly recommended to either leave the windows recovery partitions intact, or make a 1:1 dump of the contents of the drive since there appears to be no recovery media other than what is preinstalled on that drive.

The Tabpro S will boot to a flash drive in EUFI mode if you have it plugged in to the USB-C port while booting, and hold down f2 in order to get to the BIOS. Once in the boot menu page there will be button for boot device priority and you will see your USB drive listed.

If you don't do this and try to install Ubuntu from a thumb drive while in CSM mode it will not install the EUFI version to the TabPro S hard drive, and the TabPro S will be unable to boot from the install on the hard drive. You can boot live from the thumb drive in either CSM or EUFI mode.
