Some recent Linux distributions not longer requires the following but most still do. As default the native screen resolution of this notebook is 1280×768, however due to the way the Intel Extreme Graphics functions this resolution would not be usable right away. To get it working you will need to install the 915resolution program and type in:
915resolution 3c 1280 768
This will then allow you to use the native 1280×768 resolution. However this setting will be forgotten after each boot so you will need a way to automatically run this command at every boot. Fortunately most Linux distributions come with the 915resolution program and include a simple way of achieving this. You can view our Configuring the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 & 950 guide for more information.

This wireless controller in this laptop does not have any native drivers for Linux so you will need to use the ndiswrapper module. For installation instructions, you can view our Configuring the ndiswrapper module guide. The windows driver to use with ndiswrapper can be found here. There are some experimental modules available for this card which are available here. At this time these drivers are still under development and may not be totally stable.

Some versions of this laptop include the Intel 2200BG wireless controller. For this you can use the ipw2200 module.

The main issue with this laptop was the configuration of the wireless controller. Other than that there were no problems in getting this laptop working when used with an up to date Linux distribution. It is recommended to use a Linux distribution with kernel version 2.6.17 or greater, such as Fedora Core 6 or Ubuntu 6.10.

I just want to clear out a wireless network detail. The wireless card included in the laptop is an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG, which needs (or can be use with) the ipw2200 driver and the driver's firmware.

I'm having troubles with sounds using fedora 11. Playing audio hangs and sound wont play any more. This happens with flash videos, flash audio, mp3's, and audio cd's. Any one having the same problems?

I installed mint xfce 5. Haven't tried modem, pcmcia or firewire. Everything else worked, no problem. This particular comp has the Intel wireless controller.

To whom this may concern;
I am having a plaoblem with my Hp Pavilion dv1000 computer. The fan is not working, so I have purchased a new one. I am trying to replace it on my own, but I am having a difficult time getting to where the fan is. I was hoping that you might have some instructions on how to change the fan. If you could email me ASAP that would be great.

Wireless Controller

My wireless controller works just fine with Ubuntu Gutsy, no ndiswrapper required.
