HP635 Notebook tested with serveral Linux Distributions (Ubuntu 17 / Linux Mint 18 Sarah / Solus 3 / Elementary OS / Zorin 12. All distributions run relativ speedy. The best performance still using for the daily works is Zorin 12.

I testet Linux Mint and Ubuntu on my HP 635, but the ATI Driver didnt work good, my Laptop work to slow and heat up like Hell, this startet my Fan all time very loud.

I must buy Windows 7, while this OS work perfectly with the ATI Driver. :-/

I am using SuSE 11.4 on HP 635 …not many problems. one of only real problems that I have encountered, is that when the computer goes to sleep and wakes up later, the network connectivity is gone. Have to restart the interface all the time. Having issues installing vmWare Hypervisor 5.1. It does not seem to find the network interface on installation……

attention! you'll lose a lot of time (and so: money)

never had more trouble in 20 years than with the configuration hp635 + debian squeeze

this combination ruined me since the beginning of 2012.

in my eyes, debian is under sabotage - such a lot of problems cant be a hazard …

The memory size seems to change; I just found a model with 8 GB of RAM on eBay.

My wife rarely uses the touchpad, but mostly an external mouse. I've seen it once so far that the touchpad stopped working (after resuming from suspend?).

I have successfully migrated a Ubuntu 11.10 (32-bit) installation from an HP 6735s to the HP 635. Went smoothly and video, sound, WLAN, standby all work fine. Also booted without problems into Knoppix 6.1 (for restoring the image).

Ibernate works fine? Touchpad? touchpad lock on/off? special keys for sound, screen light, ecc, work fine?

Ingo Karkat, 2012/02/25 20:14

Touchpad works, also the scroll area at the right, and some multi-finger gestures. I remember more zoom gestures and the touchpad lock working in the original SLES install, but it doesn't in my Ubuntu; probably, because of a different driver being used. Sound volume, backlight etc. can be regulated via the fn + function keys.

I don't use hibernate; with 4 GB memory, it takes longer than a reboot, and prefer suspend to RAM, which works fine.

Overall, I'm satisfied; for its cheap price, the notebook is well suited for mostly stationary office works.

TY for the reply. It is nice that suspend works fine in Ubuntu, in mandriva live don't works. But i have HP A1E49EA with only 2 GB of RAM, have you an expanded pc? What is your model of HP 635?

In my non SLED distribution I have the touchpad that “jumped the pointer” if I touch a bit the touchpad surface with a second finger. Have you ever seen that?

Sled works fine and the pointer don't jump.
