I had tried running Mint on my ASUS 56C, but it seemed like the touchpad drivers weren't working properly and I would get occasional lockups. I did an upgrade to fix the bash shellshock problem and that really didn't go well. I just installed Suse 13.1 (same as I have on my deskptop) over top of the Mint/Ubuntu and it seems very good. Touchpad works fine, wifi is fine, hdmi is fine, function keys for controlling volume and brightness are fine.

I'm having some problem with this notebook,

Ubuntu often freezes and I can only shutdown using the power button . (I'm running ubuntu 12.04)

I have followed this guide
http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/Installazione/UEFI is written in Italian but there are some pics.

I suggest you to install ubuntu 12.10 it works better.
If you have boot problem after installation I suggest you to use ubuntu boot repair
