Xubuntu 16.04.1 runs pretty well on this laptop. To prevent the occasional freezes Derek mentioned, you must alter your grub. Note that this change may affect battery life, but I haven't had any crashes after almost a week of running with these changes.

Open a terminal
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
Add this next line after splash:
intel_idle.max_cstate=0 processor.max_cstate=1 modprobe.blacklist=dw_dmac,dw_dmac_core
So it will look like this:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash intel_idle.max_cstate=0 processor.max_cstate=1 modprobe.blacklist=dw_dmac,dw_dmac_core"
Control+O to write the file, then Control+X to exit nano.
sudo update-grub
Then restart.

Kernel 4… läuft auf acer-Aspire-ES1-711 nicht

hallo Leute
nachdem ich mal den 4er Kernel probiert habe, kann ich nur schlechtes berichten

- Rechner bleibt mehrmals täglich hängen
- Rechner bleibt beim runterfahren auf MINT logo immer hängen
+ bluetooth funktioniert jetzt, was bei 3.13.0-37-generic nicht ging

da kann ich leider Mint18 nicht aufsetzen.

By the way … would love to edit the wiki directly, but when pressing login, there is no way to register me as new user. As I I dont see any other button to register on the page.

… please fix your website by providing a button on the login page which says:

Acer ES1 711 only runs with older kernel-versions. When using more recent kernels, occasional freezes (ca. 30min ) may happen.
